What is a Mandated Reporter?Wisconsin individuals who work in certain professions are required to report known or suspected abuse or neglect of a child younger than 18. These individuals are known as mandated reporters. Mandated reporters include teachers, social workers, all public school employees, law enforcement officers, child care providers, foster parents, medical and mental health professionals and many others who work with children. Some organization/agency policies state that all employees are mandated reporters, regardless of their position. Volunteers may also be mandated reporters, depending on the organization's policies. What is the Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Training Program?Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Training, or SCAN-MRT, is a program designed to teach mandated reporters how to recognize and respond to suspected child maltreatment. This interactive program emphasizes practical issues in response to abuse and neglect. SCAN-MRT is the only mandated reporter training in the state approved by the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families. For child care centers and providers: SCAN-MRT is the only training approved for YoungStar as a Tier 2 training on the Registry. The training must be provided in person by an approved trainer and they enter the participants on the Registry. The three-hour training program includes information about: The prevalence of maltreatment Neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse and emotional damage Child abuse and neglect risk factors Reacting to disclosure of abuse Making a report of child abuse or neglect What happens when a report is made Preventing maltreatment
There are 2 options for obtaining the SCAN-MRT training: 1) On-site training: An approved trainer will come to your agency or organization and provide the training for staff, with a minimum of 10 and maximum of 50 participants. The cost is $350 for the 3-hour training, plus travel expenses for the trainer.
